Conventionally, Surya Yantra preparation takes place on a auspicious Sunday at sunrise during Shukla Paksha. Scientifically speaking, exposure to the sun during sunrise enables the body to achieve proper circadian rhythms, elevates moods, promotes vitamin D production in the body, and increases mental acuteness.

Generally, the yantra is inscribed on pure copper. From a scientific perspective, one could say that pure copper is a very good conductor of heat and energy and also has antimicrobial properties. Copper used in water storage and conducting energy in ancient times attests to the use of the material in a solar-based yantra.

The geometrical patterns used in Surya Yantra comprise the bindu (point), intersecting triangles, lotus flowers (petals), and the square (Bhupur). Today, it has been recognized that the concept of sacred geometry and symmetry patterns can enhance concentration and calmness of the mind. Displaying symmetry patterns repeatedly has a soothing effect on the human brain.

The process of making the yantra using red sandalwood or saffron/vermilion sand indicates the wavelength of the Sun, as reddish and orange colors generally produce warm and stimulating effects. The Surya Beej Mantra while making the yantra helps in altering the rhythm of the nervous system through sound.

After being completed, Prana Pratishtha activates this yantra by meditation, mantra repetition, or intent. In terms of psychology, this step induces faith, control, or confidence.

Positioned in the eastern direction, Surya Yantra promotes and supports exposure to morning sunlight, positivity, and productivity. In this manner, Surya Yantra amalgamates traditional knowledge and scientifically identifiable principles of nature to become an efficacious device for bodily and mental well-being.
